Risk factors Treatment-related risk factors

Treatment-related risk factors are directly linked to radio- and chemotherapy regimens:

  • CT and RT directly assault the oral mucosa.
  • Many CTs are known to cause oral mucositis even at standard doses.
  • Risk level depends on the antineoplastic therapy, as well as on the dose and treatment schedule.

Risk increases in case of combined radio-chemotherapy.
